Orile Alagbado Community

Orile Alagbado is a historic Yoruba community located within the Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and the Ifako-Ijaiye axis of Lagos State, Nigeria. Established in the early 19th century by settlers from Ile-Ife and the Oyo Empire, the town has grown from an ancient trade corridor into a vibrant Lagos suburb.

Origins and Foundation

Brave pioneers and traders from Ile-Ife and Oyo founded the settlement, led by a legendary warrior and hunter named Olugbado. The settlers discovered fertile, riverine plains ideal for farming and named the community after their leader and environment. Over time, Orile Alagbado developed into an important commercial route connecting nearby regions.

Leadership and Governance

The community is governed by a traditional royal institution led by His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeshoga Williams Adeyoola, Tomia I, supported by high chiefs, Baales (local community heads), and ward elders. Local administration works closely with the Ojokoro LCDA to drive grassroots development and civic engagement. A recent milestone in leadership was the formal coronation of HRM Oba Adesoga Williams.

Culture and Heritage

Orile Alagbado preserves its Yoruba heritage through vibrant annual festivals and cultural celebrations. These include the Ojude Oba festival, the New Yam Festival, Oba’s Day, and colorful masquerade carnivals. These events bring together indigenes, traditional chiefs, and government officials to honor traditions and strengthen community bonds.

Community Development

Recent civic projects include the construction of primary health extension clinics and plans for youth vocational training centers. Infrastructure development focuses on market expansions, as well as road and drainage improvements across the wards. These initiatives reflect the community’s commitment to growth, resilience, and sustainable development.
